The Magic of Disney Animation Opens in 2026 at Hollywood Studios

July 29, 2025

A brand-new attraction is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026, and it’s set to celebrate the heart of what makes Disney so magical: animation. Inspired by the award-winning short film Once Upon a Studio, the new experience—The Magic of Disney Animation—will invite guests into a vibrant, whimsical space where beloved Disney characters come to life beyond the screen.

A New Chapter Begins Under the Sorcerer’s Hat

Located in the former Star Wars: Launch Bay building, the reimagined attraction will take cues from the iconic Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California. Topped by a gleaming Sorcerer Mickey hat, this new animation-inspired space will serve as the hub of creative play and interactive storytelling. The concept: the animators have stepped out for a moment, and the characters have taken over to make their own kind of fun.

Inside, guests of all ages can explore playful and imaginative studio settings, encounter familiar faces, and experience Disney Animation like never before. From moving portraits to interactive shorts with surprising twists, every corner of the building promises immersive moments that celebrate Disney’s artistic heritage.

Drawing, Dreaming, and Playing

A key highlight will be hands-on activities like character sketching—giving visitors the chance to try their hand at animation themselves. Little ones will love Drawn to Wonderland, a whimsical indoor playground inspired by Alice in Wonderland and the concept art of Disney Legend Mary Blair. With oversized flowers, musical elements, and interactive play zones, it’s designed to spark curiosity and creativity.

Of course, no Disney experience would be complete without character meet-and-greets. Families can expect a wide variety of opportunities to connect with favorite animated characters throughout the space.

A Fully Reimagined Courtyard

The transformation won’t stop at the building’s doors. The surrounding area, currently known as Animation Courtyard, will be reimagined into The Walt Disney Studios, modeled after the real-life studio lot in Burbank. The new look will include updated facades, lush landscaping, and charming spaces to sit, snack, and play.

The nearby Studio Theater will continue to host The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, and a fresh Disney Junior stage show will debut inside the reimagined soundstage.

Construction Timeline and What to Expect

To prepare for the new experience, Animation Courtyard and Disney Junior Play and Dance! will close starting September 25, 2025. During the transition, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and the Walt Disney Presents exhibit will remain open.

The Magic of Disney Animation is being developed by Walt Disney Imagineers in close collaboration with Disney Animation artists, promising an experience that’s both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
